Is it better to side with the Stormcloaks or Imperials? ›

Pick Imperial if you want to play a character who is originally from a place aside from Skyrim, as it doesn't make sense to fight under a banner that ultimately won't accept you. Pick Stormcloak if you believe the Empire has no right to say what Skyrim denizens can and can't do, especially if you are a Nord.

Although Arngeir states that Thu'um should not be used for bloodshed, Ulfric enlisted in the Great War and later used the Thu'um to get what he wanted by murdering High King Torygg with it. In other words, he betrayed the Greybeards and their teachings.

When you side with the Imperials, the culmination of the Civil War questline ends when Ulfric is killed. This means Windhelm is in need of a new, more accepting Jarl and Brunwulf Free-Winter is the man for the job.

Nothing happens to it. It stays your house and doesn't get destroyed or anything.

He is the leader of the Stormcloak Rebellion who seeks to free Skyrim from the Empire of Cyrodiil. The thalmor want the Stormcloaks to win, so the thalmor aren't attacking them. If they were going to attack the thalmor it would be after the civil war. If they attacked the thalmor before the civil war they would be terrorists and they would probs have thalmor and empire on their back.

Ulfric is the odd one out as he is not dragonborn. Ulfric had been training to become a greybeard then the Great War started. He felt he had to go fight for Skyrim and The Empire and left High Hrothgar having already learned some shouts.

Aren't the storm cloaks obsessed with keeping Skyrim "pure" as well? No, they are pro nord but aren't trying to get rid of the other races. They just promote nord customs that they don't want outlawed because it's their history. The "bad guys" are the Adlmeri Dominion, AKA the Thalmor.

Why does Ulfric hate Thalmor? ›

Due to his high birth, the Thalmor took Ulfric in for interrogation and manipulation. Given the treatment of prisoners beneath the Thalmor Embassy, it can be assumed Ulfric was tortured and perhaps even brainwashed by his interrogators.

The Empire was forced to ban Talos worship because they lost the Great War and it was one of the conditions outlined in the White-Gold Concordat. Many Imperials still secretly worship Talos. The book "The Talos Mistake" was either written to appease the Aldmeri Dominion or it was written by an anti-Talos person.

The story remains almost exactly identical to the one in which the player saves Hadvar and joins the Imperials. The only differences I can think of are that, during the scouting mission for the Empire, you won't run into Hadvar and have some brief dialogue about how he's glad to see you again.

Imperials are the Government. They try and rule over the land, making it peaceful. They want to outlaw Talos worship so they won't be invaded by a giant Thalmor army again, and possibly lose Cyrrodil. Stormcloaks are the 'outlaws'.

Conclusion: The Empire is the better choice. It will benifit everyone better, and every reason you have to dislike them would be gone after the defeat of the Thalmor/Aldmeri Dimionion. Skyrim, the Empire, and even the independant bottom half of Hammerfell.

If you decide to become a Stormcloak, you slowly take Skyrim from the Imperials, kicking officials out of town and some citizens' status improves or worsens. You end up killing General Tullius and invading Solitude rather than killing Ulfric Stormcloak if you are siding with the imperials.
